To this end, he led the charge to create a task force (HB1217) that will assess and make recommendations to improve critical programs and services for veterans. To ease financial burdens on active-duty military personnel, Schmidt also introduced legislation (HB1563) to waive vehicle license plate renewal fees. It’s a small step that sends a big message of gratitude to those who serve. Additionally, he sponsored a groundbreaking measure (HB4128) that requires employers to give veterans a paid day off on Veterans’ Day if they would otherwise be scheduled to work. This innovative law ensures that veterans have the opportunity to reflect, celebrate, and connect with family on a day meant to honor their service.
